Exciting Boat Race in Heiwajima
On a hot summer day I went out to nearby Heiwajima in Shinagawa, Tokyo, to watch the dynamite boat race. Check out their English website where you can find out all the information about the race, the drivers and how to bet on it.
The entry fee was only 100 Yen and you could sit down or stand up and watch the race; it's very short but they have many races throughout the whole day. You can pay a little more and get indoor air-conditioned seats and there's many snacks you can buy on location as well.

Oeshiki Festival - Ikegami Honmonji
Ikegami Honmonji is a Buddhist temple in Tokyo sacred to the Nichiren Sect of Mahayana Buddhism. Every year, it holds the magnificent O-Eshiki Festival, which commemorates the death of the sect's founder, Saint Nichiren. The week-long festival climaxes on October 12th, when a grand parade stretches from Ikegami Station to the temple, full of musicians, dancers, and lit mando lanterns. The temple itself is lit up in impressive form, with priests leading chants at each of its many buildings. Over 300,000 people attend on this day, and the festivities last deep into the night.
